No Man's Sky, one of the most ambitious video games in recent memory, had a rocky start fraught with bugs and unfulfilled promises. Though Hello Games received a ton of bad press and negativity over the game's troubled launch, it kept its cool – and over the years – rebuilt No Man's Sky into a comeback story of the ages.
Today, the developers of No Man's Sky announced a crossover with BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, allowing players the ability to obtain the iconic ship from the first Mass Effect game: the Normandy SR-1. Considering the overlap of people who have played both games at some point in their gaming career, Hello Games seems to have made a prudent decision in sparking interest for former players to check the game out – or for those still on the fence to give No Man's Sky a try.
The Normandy SR-1 will be made available for a limited time through the use of the game's Expeditions, a shared seasonal event system that offers players the opportunity to undertake unique missions and earn themed rewards. Specifically, players will be able to obtain Commander Shepard's legendary starship from December 8th to December 21st through No Man Sky's Beachhead expedition, the second out of the four expedition "re-runs" that are arriving this holiday season.
In a tweet posted by Sean Murray, the founder of Hello Games, it was announced that players who have not participated in expeditions during their original release dates would get the opportunity to revisit the ones that they may have missed, with the first expedition – Pioneers – releasing today on November 24th and lasting till December 7th.
Originally, Mass Effect's Normandy was added to No Man's Sky in May, shortly after the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, so players who were unable to obtain it at the time have been provided with another opportunity to do so. The ship's class is ranked S, which is the highest tier a starship, multitool, freighter or upgrade can have in the game. The class designation affects a ship's number of slots and bonus multiplier, as well as its price.
An important thing to add is that these returning expeditions have been described as a "one time" thing, so players willing to get their hands on the unique rewards offered throughout should look to the skies once again, and prepare for a lift off.
No Man's Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
